When the zinc plate is in contact with carbon dioxide and water in the air, there are two main stages in the chemical change process, namely the formation of the zinc hydroxide layer and the zinc carbonate layer. This dense oxide layer acts as a protective film to prevent the zinc from further Corrosion ensures the long-term service life of the metal sheet. An independent laboratory has monitored zinc sheets in the Ruhr Industrial Zone in Germany for 14 years. The results show that the average corrosion consumption of the zinc sheet surface layer on a flat roof with a drainage slope of 3% is about 4 µm/year. Compared with the commonly used galvanized steel plates and aluminum plates, zinc plates have significant advantages in construction. Zinc plate has self-protection characteristics and does not require other special anti-corrosion treatment. Even if the surface is damaged, a protective layer can be re-formed by virtue of its self-protection characteristics to prevent further corrosion. Galvanized sheets and aluminum sheets will scratch or fall off the zinc layer or oxide film on the surface due to bumps and other reasons, and then be corroded, so additional maintenance costs are required.

 

In addition, zinc alloys are easy to form and weld, will not pollute the surrounding environment, and have high waste recycling rates. Although the price of zinc sheet is relatively high, considering its longer life cycle, the use of lifetime maintenance-free zinc sheet is one of the ideal and economical choices.

 

According to the properties of different metals and electrochemical principles, zinc plates can be in contact with lead, aluminum, stainless steel, coated steel plates, avoid contact with copper, uncoated steel, and from high to low (from outside to inside) ) The metal combination sequence should be aluminum, zinc, coated steel plate, lead, and copper.

 

The natural untreated zinc plate is bright silver-white, because it will gradually oxidize and change color in the atmosphere, so it is rarely used in conventional buildings. Of course, an unchanging building is not necessarily the effect that every architect pursues, and this oxidative discoloration process can add the concept of time to the building, and it can express special meaning in some special buildings.

 

The most commonly used zinc plate in construction is the silver-gray pre-oxidized treatment in the factory. This color is different from the oxide layer that zinc plate naturally forms in the atmosphere. It can remain for a long time until the pre-oxidation layer is destroyed. It is very beneficial to maintain the long-lasting image of the building and avoid color difference when repairing and replacing the panels. In addition to prefabricated silver-gray zinc plates, some companies also provide prefabricated black-gray zinc plates and special custom-made color coated zinc plates in other colors.
